The Atlanta Mess-Around Festival gets underway tonight at the Earl. A weekend bender thrown in conjunction by the sonic trinity of Atlanta-based record labels, Die Slaughterhaus, Rob House Records and Douche Master, the two day event promises to be a boozy, hedonistic celebration of the glorious lifestyle that comes with pledging one's allegiance to underground rock'n'roll music. The line-up this weekend is pretty solid with must-see acts. Friday gets started with the Gaye Blades, the super-group featuring Jared Swilley of the Black Lips and Bobby Ubangi of Bobby and The ...

EXHUMED: J.T. IV Cosmic Lightning LP

by Todd Killings

posted Thursday Nov 13th, 2008

Chicago's most notorious and elusive loner punk from the golden era, J.T. IV has been evading the spotlight since his first primordial crawl back in the late 1970s that spawned his unearthly brand of psychotic desperation. I became familiar with two compilation tracks that instantly peaked my interest ("Out of The Can" on Homework vol. 1 and "Death Trip" on Staring Down the Barrel), his name was met with blank stares along with obscurities such as The Crucified, The Exit, Razer, and Pistol Whip, when we went over the list ...

Utilizing acoustic folk minimalism to great effect, Woods transpose their songs into campfire-style melodies that offer nothing angry or dissonant, and create an overall feeling of warmth and sedation ...

Over this coming weekend, France Has The Bomb will play two shows with A/V Murder in the Midwest, one in Milwaukee on Friday at Frank's Powerplant and the other in Chicago on Saturday at the esteemed Ronny's Bar. As many jokes that have been made about Srini Radhakrishna (formally of the White Outs and Guilty Pleasures) and Hideo Takahashi (of the Birthday Suits and Sweet J.A.P) becoming conjoined twins since Srini moved out to Minneapolis over a year ago, the union has given birth to a band that's something truly unique. France Has The ...

It's Radio Time!

by Brett Cross

posted Friday Oct 12th, 2007

In this ever-changing world where entertainment lays closely between the hearts and groins of millions of music fanatics, it is impossible to stay on top of what is going on around us. With thousands upon thousands of bands forming, recording and breaking up before they even see the light of day, often their reach for the minions of faceless audiences the world over comes up short and they disband before the brilliance of their output is recognized beyond the ears of their immediate cronies. And that's a crime. Victimoftime.com is a website dedicated to spotlighting the aural underdog. Through a ...
