Wow, this is almost TOO BIG of a post for one entry but we've got a major OVERLOAD of punk information for you here in the form of 25 complete episodes of New Wave Theatre, the ground-breaking cable access underground punk showcase of the early 1980s that featured incredible live performances of everyone from 45 Grave, Suburban Lawns, Dead Kennedys, and Fear, Circle Jerks, and Angry Samoans, to name just a few. Hosted by the one-of-a-kind Peter Ivers, New Wave Theatre was featured nationally on the late night series Night Flight, which brought these bizarre and subversive bands right into the homes of middle America and beyond. Long the material of video trader's circles in the pre-YouTube years, it was difficult to find complete episodes, as the VHS "best of" compilations were easily found and sufficed well.
But for those completist types, this will be a special treat that the punk gods have bestowed upon us, and of course, it's FREE to watch, and the quality of the performances from some of these bands that never even made the leap to a recorded format are well worth the time of anyone remotely interested in underground punk music. And if you'd like to learn more about the twisted and mysterious fate of the host, Peter Ivers, by all means check out this book, as well.
So kick this playlist with all TWENTY FIVE episodes into full screen mode, and crack a Busch And fade away. God bless YouTube (only 10 years old just this year) and have a great holiday, everyone.
