Say No to Chicago "Event Promoter Ordinance."

posted Monday May 12th, 2008

This Wednesday the Chicago City Council votes on a crazy law that could kill small rock clubs, small theater, d.i.y. shows, and effect anything else smaller than Allstate Arena or Lollapalooza. There is an proposed Chicago 'event promoter ordinance' that would put severe restrictions on people who put on shows at small venues. According to Save Chicago Culture it would require a $2000 fee and even bands that put on their own shows would be counted as a 'promoter.' The Chicago City Council will vote this Wednesday, May 14, so if you want to contact your alderman do it quickly.

The text of the ordinance is at the Jim Derogotis' blog at the Sun Times HERE.
