This Friday in Chicago, the Subterranean will host a show featuring quite a killer line-up including the debut of two promising upstarts. The Rebound Babies are a concoction of the wedded members of Cococoma, Bill and Lisa Roe, along with Jim Hollywood, the lanky mover/shaker and all around busy body of the Baseball Furies, The Tyrades, and most recently White Savage. The crazed, danceable, and anthemic numbers Cococoma produce in combination with Mr. Hollywood's knack for razor-edged and ruinous sounds will surely have an interesting result. Also debuting are the newest off-shot mash-up of now defunct Functional Blackouts, Daily Void featuring Mac Blackout, Dr. Filth and Rob Karlic. Night of the Hunter, another Chicago act that's relatively new, drag an art-rock WIRE sound though the caverns of agile hardcore with a pronounced bass guitar, and vocals that slip into maundering anger.
KK Rampage is probably the most damaged, life-ruining act around. Their abrasive, noisy and cataclysmic bedlam scrape the barrel of human fortitude, leaving behind a film of screeching guitar, disjointed No-wave rhythms, and a flooding sense of anxiety that builds up to a perfectly dangerous sound. You can pick-up any number of their self-released CDRs HERE and keep your eyes peeled for a single-sided LP out soon on Rococo Records.
