This weekend in Brooklyn, Southpaw is the spot to see the collection of some of the best current and vintage pop acts all on one bill, in one place. The first ever Radio Heartbeat Power Pop Fest kicks off today at 2pm at Magnetic Field and commences afterward back at Southpaw with co-headliners Nikki Corvette and 20/20, and it's a great way to start out your experience witnessing a seemingly endless string of pop luminaries slated to perform over the next four days. While some of the biggest names in obscure underground New Wave-era pop who haven't played out in years are generating a lot of the hype, don't forget how impressive of an assembly of current bands are billed alongside classic acts like The Pointed Sticks, The Speedies, Neighborhoods, and Milk 'N' Cookies. With home run hitters like the Busy Signals, Gentleman Jesse And His Men, Nice Boys, Top Ten, Baby Shakes and The Fevers in the fold, it may be a serious challenge for the veterans to keep up with the kids that are so effectively keeping this historically important sound alive. With as-yet-unconfirmed daytime shows already set up including performances by the Black Beauties and Nobunny, this is guaranteed to be the first weekend of it's kind to encompass all the intersecting parameters of pop music as we know it. Radio Heartbeat is also the name of the new record label which will be releasing the Speedies and Hubble Bubble albums in the near future as well, so be sure to pick up copies of each at the show while you're steadily succombing to the intensely sweet rock'n roll music blasting out of Brooklyn this weekend. Tickets are still available HERE, and although the 4-day passes have sold out, we strongly encourage anyone in the New York City area to check this show out, even if only for one of the nights. A remarkable collection of internationally revered pop acts doesn't just come together like this on its own, so throw out your fat ties, Hawaiian shirts and groovy flares for a few minutes and get your ass down to the Southpaw in Brooklyn for four fun nights of powerfully great rock'n roll music.
