This Friday at Johnny Brenda's in Philadelphia, Pissed Jeans will celebrate the release of their latest full-length Hope For Men, on the iconic Sub Pop records. Over the past couple of years, these Pennsylvanians have been scratching out thick, life-ruining hardcore that recalls the tonal flavor of the early-80s, with Am-Rep noise of the succeeding decade, but departs with a modern sneer. On Hope For Men, they blast through painfully playful scorchers that touch on everything from scrapbooking (as a side note: nothing kicks a zinester off his soapbox quicker than comparing him to a scrapbooker) to sexual frustration, to the ridiculous idea of declaring yourself to be a “people person.” With clever, insightful, and instantly biting lyrical content, Pissed Jeans' songs ride a line of mimicking and torturous sarcasm. The growling, throat-damaged vocals quickly smooth over to softly avowing observations that leave you with the feeling that the joke is on all of us. Their approach to milking the frustrations they express all over Hope For Men break down into thickset bass rhythms, drums that could perpetuate a panic attack, and feedback as a byproduct of the melancholic tailspin of the debasing and cataclysmic effects of everyday drudgery. Oddly enough, they do it with a sinister sense of humor. You can get Hope For Men directly from Sub Pop HERE, download the full set of their recent appearance on KEPX radio HERE and listen to a track from their latest album HERE. The simmered-down and atmospheric two piece, Blues Control open the show along with Tile.
