The patrons at Vaudeville in beautiful Tuscon, Arizona this Saturday will be lucky enough to witness a line-up featuring some of the most febrile and contrasting rock'n'roll acts ever to assemble on a short stage. First, hometown heroes Okmoniks, whose name references the 80s sitcom ALF, will hit the stage with their gum-snapping, girl fronted organ party. Their sound immediately hits the boogie bone upon entering the ear, and since their debut single in 2003 they've made it nearly impossible to sit still and listen to their instantly infectious songs. Combining lighthearted bubblegum spirit with a heedless blithe, The Okmoniks quick and whirling sound will surely have the place bumping.
The Time Flys brew of fuzzed-up gutter tunes smashes the rock'n'roll platform with a punk hammer. With their freshly released sophomore LP, Rebels of Babylon on Birdman, their unique amalgamation of sneering, nasally vocals, filthy licks, and lofty, audacious attitude come off as if they were barking their songs from an elevated gutter. Their label mates, The Nice Boys throw down a cleaner sound, but I still wouldn't trust your girlfriend around them. Their songs are the perfect apotheosis of the sweetly self-indulgent and cocksure demeanor of mid-70s powerpop that wiped the slate and set the stage for rock'n'roll's punk pubescence. Taking their homage to a timely and modern level without leaving the original formula, The Nice Boys deliver something completely new, without messing their hair up. Also performing are the Birthday Suits.
