I don't have much to say about finally getting to see The Gories except that I'd been waiting for it for years--since back in my Normal, Illinois, days when Jim Miller made me a compilation tape with a bunch of great garage I'd never heard. The Gories were my instant favorite. I had no idea what era they were from or what, but I was blown away by their stripped-down rawness and soul. I found out they were still around and watched to see if I could ever see them up in Chicago or elsewhere. But alas, it never transpired and then they broke up. However, I did see one of the first (if not the first) Demolition Doll Rods shows right after moving to Chicago and made it back down to Normal for the first Dirtbombs show.
As much fun as both were, I really wanted the Gories. Finally, back in September they made it to San Francisco and my wish finally came true. I must say it was all that I had hoped for, if not more. They also just recently ripped up two nights at the Empty Bottle in Chicago (where I first saw the Doll Rods) and, boy, how I wish I coulda been there for that, too. Check out some videos from my friend hobocakes on the youtube.
Also if you're lucky enough to be in Austin, Detroit or Cleveland, then you might just get to see them yourself. I suggest you do.
