While most of us were still safely tucked away in our mother's uterus, Damon Edge and Gary Spain formed the now legendary Chrome in San Fransisco just over 32 years ago. And while the punk movement was exploding worldwide, bands celebrated the pedestrian and immediate spirit of 60s garage rock, and layered it with an ethos of a good 'ol generational "fuck you." After recording The Visitation and a line up change, and Gary Spain formed the now legendary Helios Creed joined the band and from then on their sound was fully cemented into the ether, and Chrome emerged with a sound and an aesthetic that were millennia ahead of what their cronies were doing at the time. Still, to this day their influence can be heard in a whole gamut of bands from Human Eye to even to the zillions of Weird Wave/Glue Wave outfits that are constantly popping up.
After time had slowly pried the band part and the passing of founding member Damon Edge in 1995, Helios Creed continued on and over the past decade he has released some the most interesting music to come out of that time. Recently touring and being billed as "Chrome with Helios Creed," their shows have been a mix of the material spanning the past three decades, and by all accounts completely mind-blowing.
Helios Creed are making the rounds this week on tour, making a stop tonight at the Cobra Lounge for a free show with two awesome Chicago acts, Daily Void and Cave.
