Wednesday night in Los Angeles at the Scene, come find out why the name Greg Ashley resonates such awe and respect from the most poignant minds of the rock'n roll underworld. As leader and spiritual director of the Gris Gris and the Mirrors, Greg has left an impeccable iridescent impression on modern psychedelia that will be an endless thrill for future generations to discover. With a new album out on Birdman called Painted Garden, Ashley's solo sounds get overlooked the most, but deserve an equal place in his cadre of creative works with it's softer parameters and folkier execution. On his debut album, Medicine Fuck Dream from 2003, his chilling and mesmerizingly beautiful songs show clearly that his skills have expanded beyond all expectations of anyone surveying kids playing guitar in Rip Off-style bands ten years ago. Check out a few of his latest songs right here. In addition, Danava from Portland, are a heavy psych/glam rock outfit who take cues from all the greats like the Sweet, early Black Sabbath and Blue Oyster Cult and wear their hair long like brazen beasts on some sort of pie-eyed riff rampage. They're destined to bang some gongs in LA this evening, for sure. Up next are Minneapolis' most insane Birthday Suits, who are gonna stick out like an orangutang in a wind chime emporium with their completely unhinged spasms of art punk blast, but it will be exhilarating nonetheless. The locals opening the show, Wounded Lion bring a simplistic guitar pop sound to the stage that keeps it catchy and minimal in that refreshing Flying Nun-sounding way. In other words, get to the Scene early Wednesday night, and check out some Wounded Lion tracks right here.
