BREAKING SOUNDS: THING s/t debut LP

posted Monday May 4th, 2015

Existing for the blink of an eye in the Chicago summer of 2013, only a small group of lucky losers got to witness the birth of THING. After an abrupt exodus to Tennessee and a year of gestation, songwriter and frontman Rich Crook (Lover!, Lost Sounds, Reatards and Knaughty Knights) returned with a fully developed band of cretins and an album's worth of punk n' roll rippers that will instantly hook fans of his previous work and the unfamiliar alike. Power pop hooks, Ramones riffs, and the signature THING wall of Kustom reverb make this an album with which it is impossible to argue. We couldn't agree more, and this debut is nothing short of BLISTERING, combining short, sharp bursts of punk's sickest hooks, deeply embedded into a glistening pop framework and ready to make your head explode from within.

Rich Crook has reassembled his poster wall of pop noise into a Tennessee-based unit, employing members of Cheap Time and Unwed Teenage Mothers forming another airtight unit that knocks the wind out of you the way the debut Lover! LP did back in the Summer of 2006, just a non-stop barrage of barrel-chested hits, each more sumptuous than the last, and easily picking it's way inside your head.

So don't miss THING live in the flesh onstage at the Empty Bottle for the Saturday night of the 10th Annual HoZac Blackout Fest, along with The Avengers, SWEET KNIVES (Rich & Alicja Trout of the Lost Sounds performing LS material), and Gross Pointe, and you can still grab tickets HERE, as well as STREAM two new tracks from the debut THING LP right here, available soon from the reinvigorated/resurrected Solid Sex Lovie Doll Records!
