"She said yeah, she said yeah, she said yeah yeah yeah!!!!!" The Rip Offs are still pounding through my brain and body this morning. It was pure '90s slop trash magic--just like I (don't) remember them playing the Fireside back in Chicago in 199-whut????? I was there but didn't bother bringing my camera cuz I didn't want it to get f'd up cuz I knew I certainly would. But now some 30 odd years later (I don't fact check), they're back to play the last Budget Rock and then kill Japan. Shit, I'm gonna be in Japan in about a month. Too bad I can't see them there too! Oh well, last night was great and will live in my head a bit longer since I wasn't f'd up and did manage to get some photos this time around. Oh yeah, Budget Rock, last hurrah! Damn, I've only missed one since 2007 and am sad to see it go but this one is a boozy doozy and I'll try and cover what I can for yous who can't make it or can't remember. Did anybody shoot that Fireside Rip Offs show?
Anyway, great site on all the Budget Rock 10 info is here
Nobunny destroyed with a GG-esque tribute to '90s classics like Supercharger, Loli and the Chones, Mummies, and more. Backed by some Okmoniks, it was an entertaining slop-fest mess.
Statics played like a nervous high school talent show band. Sometimes lo-fi garage just ain't meant for the big stage. Not that B.O.T.H. is all that big of a stage--it's just they seem more like a band that should be playing in a living room or garage or yeah. Greg Rip Off came out and ripped through "Sooprize Package" and everyone went nuts, it was awesome. I even got in a few "STAB A MOTHERFUCKER IN THE BACK"s...
Caught the tail end of Personal and the Pizzas but didn't get any decent shots. Funny to say they might have been the tightest band I saw last night. Even though the original bassist Dino was back in town after a long hiatus of shooting LSD into his face on some kinda cosmic retreat (once again, I don't fact check, maybe I can get a job in the mainstream media). Budget Rock 10--the last one ever, runs through Sunday night at Thee Parkside.
