Fresh offa last Friday night's hangover, I found myself back in that city of sins--San Fran-Sicko, this time at the Amnesia in the Mission District. It was one of those bars with a ton of great, yet nicely-priced beer on tap, but with a packed, narrow room, I just knew any drink I purchased would only end up on my shirt. So I opted instead for cheapish bottled Corona to match the Tecates I'd been nursing the previous night's hangover with. The Aerosols were just finishing up when I arrived and couldn't really describe what it was I heard. Didn't sound bad, though. I hope to catch more again, soon. Andy from Woven Bones recognized me (must've been the camera) and we hit it off right away. Yet another friendly Austinite! Sometimes I can't believe I've still never been there. The instrument set up was much like I suspected, minimalist yet delivering a powerful sound reminiscent of early Jesus and the Mary Chain. The vox coulda stood to be a bit louder, but overall it was amazing. A few other upfront-types were really diggin' as well, so don't forget to check out the two videos that I posted on the you tubes, as Woven Bones might be one of my favorite new bands! Speaking of which, the Fresh & Onlys were up next, and if you haven't heard 'em yet, get your ass in gear! Of course, if you're on VoT, chances are you have. Funny thing is, even though I live in the Bay Area, I always miss them when they play, but I love the recordings, and enjoyed the set I caught. I managed to get some good shots and picked up some records, too. Hope you all enjoy.
