Autumn is always filled with a bunch of really good shows here in San Francisco, and here's five of my recent faves. Old friends King Khan & BBQ Show always come around this time of year, this time straight out of a Hazard County jail cell. That didn't stop them from tearing the roof off of the packed Independent in SF with a long set that still seemed too short. Lover! came around, bringing more old friends and great songs, as Rich Crook never ceases to pound out the hits. They did a strange interview with the MeVIO website while here also, a great acoustic set, but man, those were some weird questions, check it out HERE. Lover! also brought a fresh, young, destructive two-piece outta Biloxi, Mississippi called Bass Drum of Death, full of swampy, dirty, gritty, head-shaking goodness. I foresee great things from these young bucks in the future.
Jimmy Hollywood once told me about some band from Southern France he met on tour with the Baseball Furies called Sonic Chicken 4. I knew that any band with such a strange name must be sought and found all the 7"s I could, and they instantly topped my playlists. I yearned to see them for some time and was not disappointed when I finally did. The songs were played to perfection, and even had an amazing xylophone solo! Perpignan is sounding better all the time.
Speaking of hit-making towns, Milwaukee never disappoints, this time bringing around the catchy, pop-infused gems of Jail. It was the first time I'd heard them and was quite impressed, check them out.
