Friday night's show (last night) was out of this world--quite literally! For coming off his spaceship from who-knows-where and landing in the out-there-enough SF hood of the Tenderloin, was the Legendary Stardust Cowboy himself. Headlining the show was Oakland's own Touch Me Nots, with newly acquired bassist, Clarke Mosher. They've been absent for some time, working with the new guy to perform sweet but surly songs about not caring about getting jewwed down by love and the now-classic "Hey, Television." They really set the night off right. Two Tears played next, a swampy, bluesy two-piece with one of the Red Aunts and King Khan's possibly separated at birth twin on drums. They had the lights turned down waaaay low and since I hadn't set up my lights, I didn't get any good shots. Sorry, guys, next time. The "Ledge" had former Dead Kennedys' bassist Klaus Flouride playing some crazy 6-string guitar bass thing that only somebody like guitarist Jay Rosen would have had. And sure enough, Jay was on guitar. Don't know who the drummer was, but he was a dapper rockabilly kinda guy who drove all the crazy, drunk girls up front wild! The wild spaceman took his time coming out, but when he did, it was full of non-stop dancing, shooting, leg-kicking madness. A strange poem about an egg losing its yellow and my favorite tune about standing in a trash can made the night just about perfect.
