BREAKING SOUNDS: Black Lips/KK BBQ Show Xmas

posted Friday Dec 21st, 2007

Christmas is the special time of the year where the magic of cultish consumerism comes together with the sparkling brilliance of garland, and the nondenominational charm of a whiskey-nosed fat guy in a red suit and a funny hat. And what other way to celebrate this time of generosity, brotherly love and general merriment than to release a limited edition Christmas single by two of the best bands to ever drink their own urine. Norton records, the New York City-based label whose made a monolithic name for themselves over the past 20 years concentrating on releasing primitive rock'n'roll obscurities, are smart enough to know acts like King Khan & BBQ Show and The Black Lips are the shakers that'll leave an impression on the musical landscape for generations to come.

The A-side features the Black Lips doing a song called “Christmas in Bagdad” that shines a bleak light on the holiday spirit in their hallmark vivacious, yet intemperate mien. Dealing with the heartbreak of homesickness our soldiers deal with during the holidays, their song puts this season in perspective without being a real downer. The King Khan & BBQ Show on the flip side layout a spirited instrumental that'll have you pissing eggnog in no time. You can still get a copy in your little elfin mitts right here.
